Scott Eugene Merfeld, age 40, of
Larry Dr., Waldron, Michigan passed away Monday, January 31, 2005, at his home.
He was born October 13, 1964 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Eugene P. and Pauline
(Holt) Merfeld. He married Kathy Tinney on June 22, 1985 in Waldron, Michigan.
Scott was the superintendent of Waldron Area Schools. He previously taught
Middle School and High School in Merkel, Texas and Social Studies at Waldron
High School. He then became principal at Fayette High School in 2000, principal
at Waldron High School in 2001 and accepted the superintendent position at
Waldron in 2004.
Scott graduated from Lincoln Community High School in Stanwood, Iowa in 1983,
Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas in 1988, with a B.S. Degree
Education and Central Michigan University in 1999, with a Masters Degree in
Educational Leadership. He was a member of Waldron Church of Christ, Michigan
Association of Secondary School Principals, and Michigan Association of School
Administrators. He enjoyed reading historical books, sports, weightlifting,
golf, movies and coaching.
Surviving Scott besides his wife, Kathy and two children, Bethany and A.J. all
of Waldron are his mother, Pauline Merfeld of Sun City, Arizona; two sisters,
Carlotta (John) Paul of Adel, Iowa and Vicki (David) Broom of Abilene, Texas;
father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Janet Tinney of Waldron. His
father, Eugene Merfeld in 1994 and mother-in-law, Nancy Tinney in 2000,
preceded him in death.
Funeral services for Scott Merfeld will be Thursday, February 3, 2005 at 11:00
a.m. in the multi purpose room at Waldron Area Schools with Pastor Donny Goff
and Pastor Doug Bennett officiating. Interment will follow in Waldron Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 2, 2005 from 3-8 p.m. at Waldron Church
of Christ. Arrangements were entrusted to Eagle Funeral Home in Waldron.

Lenawee County or ALS Research.
